On Monday, July 6th, the Santa Ana Police Department revealed in a press briefing that they have in custody the driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in Santa Ana, California. Bryan Lemus, a 19-year-old city resident, would need the expertise of auto accident attorneys.

The crash report disclosed that the auto-pedestrian collision happened on Sunday night, July 5th, around 10:05 p.m. on Bristol Street near Myrtle Street. SAPD Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said their investigation placed Lemus behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Camaro that slammed into the unidentified pedestrian. The victim was walking across Bristol at Myrtle.

A witness informed the police that the suspect appeared to be in a street race with another car, but the investigators have not verified the information. They believed that Lemus was driving at top speed, and it played a vital role in the accident. He remained at the scene and cooperated with the officers.

The police took him into custody on a charge of vehicular manslaughter. The investigation into the collision is ongoing, and witnesses can contact the SAPD at the station or on the listed line.

Vehicular manslaughter under the California Penal Code is a criminal offense that occurs without prior intention to cause harm to the victim. A significant ingredient of the crime is the lack of malice against the victim and the fact that it was purely accidental. A convicted person faces between 4, 6, or 10 years imprisonment in the state prison.
