On Wednesday, CHP officers contacted the detectives investigating the case after seeing the then-suspect driving the wrong way in the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 in Ontario. A big rig sideswiped the truck, making it turn around and head south. Sanders crashed into the center median near Jurupa Street and proceeded to exit his wrecked vehicle with a puppy.
The victim crossed into the northbound lane of traffic, and an oncoming vehicle struck him and the dog. The two sustained fatal injuries, and the investigators pronounced them dead at the scene. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and anyone with information should contact the SCSO Major Crimes Unit.
Wrong-way driving is one of the causes of traffic accidents in California and the United States. Drivers must always maintain their lane and avoid crossing over into the opposite traffic lane. When there’s a crash, motorists should avoid fleeing the scene, but remain and wait for the relevant authorities.
