The Austin Police Department on Friday, June 26th, identified the car passenger who died in a solo crash in Austin, Texas. In updated reports of the car accident, they named Eber Misael Castillo Ortiz, 22, as the fatal victim.
According to the APD, they received multiple 911 calls about the accident on Monday, June 22nd; the calls originated from along the 10600-block of Brownie Drive. The incident which occurred just before 7:30 p.m., precisely along the 500-block of East Grady Drive, involved a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the vehicle wrecked, and discovered from their preliminary investigation that it was traveling northbound on Brownie before the crash. The police said that the Silverado left the roadway for unknown reasons, collided with a stone mailbox, and a chain-link fence on a property along East Grady.
The investigators found Ortiz severely injured in the vehicle and performed life-saving measures together with Austin fire crews and EMS medics. Despite their efforts, the victim passed away at the scene some minutes after 7:32 p.m.
The police said that the Silverado driver fled the scene on foot and currently remains at large. They urged those with information about the accident to contact the station, and those who wish to remain anonymous should use the tips feature on the Austin PD mobile app.
The crash marked Austin’s 39th fatal traffic crash of 2020, resulting in 41 fatalities. The number is an increase from the 38 fatalities they recorded at this time in 2019.
