A news release by the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office, Washoe County, Nevada, on Tuesday, June 16th, revealed that a DUI driver would be spending time in prison. 61-year-old John Manuel Brown, of Reno, would serve 15 years for driving drunk, and will not be eligible for parole until he serves a minimum of four years.

According to the release, the man pled guilty to one count of felony DUI in February, and this is the 8th DUI conviction he has gotten since his first arrest in 1983. Deputy District Attorney Christopher Day argued for the maximum 15-year sentence due to Brown’s criminal history and penchant for driving under the influence.

The arrest sending the man behind bars occured in December 2018. The Nevada Highway State Troopers stated that they spotted him making an unsafe lane change on Interstate 580. The convict nearly crashed into a patrol vehicle, and troopers found that he emitted a strong alcohol odor when they finally got him to stop.

Brown’s speech was slurred, and the NHP found a nearly empty bottle of whiskey hidden in his jacket pocket. A blood test revealed that he had a blood alcohol content of .296, which is almost three times the legal limit. The troopers also learned that the man had been arrested nine times for DUI.

Those arrested for driving under the influence can seek help from a drunk driving attorney who will advise and represent their interest.
