In new accident reports released on Thursday evening, May 28, authorities disclosed the identity of a pedestrian killed earlier in the week in Albany, Georgia. Despite the previous release, the Dougherty County Coroner’s Office named John Daniel Thompson, as the pedestrian who ended up deceased after a vehicle hit him.

The tragic occurrence, which led to Thompson’s death, played out on the morning of Wednesday, May 27. Police said they responded to the crash shortly after 6 a.m. and found the fatal victim unresponsive on the roadway, near the Old Cooper Tire Plant and Kitty’s Flea Market.

Investigators determined the victim got struck and killed by a semi-truck while he was walking across the roadway on Sylvester Road.

Preliminary reports released on Wednesday identified the deceased man as Ed Muller, 75. However, following newer findings from the investigations, officers discovered the fatal victim went by a fake name and identity prior to his death, for some reason.

Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler said Ed Muller, whose identity the pedestrian assumed, died a few years ago. Fowler made the revelation while publicly announcing the deceased real name as John Daniel Thompson.

Authorities believe the victim changed his identity and name as a result of his past criminal records. No additional detail is available at this time in the accident reports.

The deadly crash is under investigation by the Albany Police Department, and the DCSO.
