Authorities identified the deceased female as Lexi Simon, a 17-year-old Fenton local. Investigations show the fatal victim was driving a personal watercraft close to Lake Fenton’s north end, alongside her boyfriend who was operating a second personal watercraft. Both commuters were on the southwest side of Monro lodge, with Simon traveling directly in front of her companion.
Simon halted or slowed the pace of her boat without warning, causing the young man to crash into it before he could avoid a collision. The female victim fell into the lake as a result. Witnesses testified that Simon’s boyfriend jumped into the water body almost immediately and tried to pull her out.
First responders transported the girl to the Ascension Genesys in Grand Blanc Township, in critical condition. The accident reports revealed Simon gave in to her life-threatening wounds hours later, around 6:52 p.m.
Investigators gathered that the girl might have stopped her watercraft after noticing someone falling from a tube in the area, leading to the accident. Police believe drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
