It occurred around 3:30 p.m. near Bancroft and 98th Avenues in front of Elmhurst United Middle School.
Singleton was on her way to pick up one of her children.
On Wednesday, police said 26-year-old Henry Melendez had been arrested in Los Angeles by U.S. Marshals.
He will be extradited to Oakland to face charges and the case has been forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney for review and charges. Police revealed this information via Twitter.
On the day in question, Singleton was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when Melendez overtook the vehicle that had stopped to allow her to pass.
He struck her and then drove off in his Nissan Optima without stopping. Singleton died on the scene as two of her children sat in a car nearby.
Melendez’s car was later located but he was not found.
The Oakland Police Department and Crime Stoppers of Oakland said they would pay up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest.
Since the crash, Oakland converted the street to one lane in each direction and installed plastic barriers.
It is not known whether Singleton’s family will file a wrongful death lawsuit. This would allow them to claim compensation for losses relating to her death.
More information could be made public in future accident reports.
