It is reported that 28-year-old Leah Knox lost control of her vehicle, which caused her to crash into the guardrail. She has been charged with causing the accident.
Her Mitsubishi Eclipse bounced off the guardrail, putting the vehicle back into the roadway where it was then hit by Robert Kent of Stockbridge, who was driving a tractor-trailer. After striking the vehicle, his truck crashed into the center section of the median wall.
It is still unclear as to what happened with the second tractor-trailer truck that was involved in the accident. Raymond Samuel was driving it. It is believed that his truck struck Knox’s vehicle or the other tractor-trailer.
Both Robert Kent and Raymond Samuel were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Robert was 63 years old, and Raymond was 50.
Knox only received minor injuries that were treated at the hospital, and then she was later released. She was taken into custody and held at the Gwinnett County Jail on a $5,900 bond. The charges she faces are homicide by vehicle, plus failure to maintain lane and driving too fast for conditions. These charges were based on both evidence and witness statements. The Interstate did not reopen until close to 6:40 AM.
