After the collision, the suspect fled on foot, abandoning the Dodge Ram pickup truck he was driving. The police said Borrego stole the car out of Crockett County, and it has a freshly painted passenger compartment and bumpers.
The investigators searched for the man around the accident scene but were unable to locate him. At about 4 p.m., they got a call about a suspicious man who appeared to be sleeping underneath a car in the unit block of West 30th Street.
The officers identified the man as Borrego, and they noticed that he had the same paint on the pickup on his clothes. They arrested and took the suspect into custody on a charge of evading arrest detention. The driver of the cab did not sustain any injury from the collision.
The investigation is ongoing, and the police might file additional charges pending their final findings. Those involved in hit-and-run accidents should contact auto accident attorneys for legal advice and representation.
