Ward at about noon Monday was driving westbound on U.S. 84 when he lost control of his vehicle, according to authorities. Ward’s truck went off the roadway and he overcorrected, car accident reports state.
The truck began to skid, again left the roadway and crashed into a fence. Ward’s truck overturned, killing its driver upon impact, according to authorities.
Ward was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck, troopers reported. No one else was in the vehicle, according to car accident reports.
The Texas Department of Public Safety continues to investigate the wreck. It is unclear whether investigators believe factors like speed, intoxication or inattentive driving might have contributed to the incident.
Ward was due to graduate from high school this year from the Evant Independent School District. District officials offered condolences via the school system’s Facebook page.
“It is with a heavy heart that we ask for prayers for the Class of 2020 as they lost a classmate and friend (Monday) in an accident,” school leaders wrote in the post.
