A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle Monday night on a state highway near Loving, according to authorities.
Luis Hernandez-Armendarez, 26, of Carlsbad, was found dead at the scene of the incident, according to a release from the New Mexico State Police. No other injuries were reported, authorities.

The investigation revealed that Hernandez-Armendarez was walking on New Mexico 31 near mile marker six at about 10:30 p.m. Monday. Police said Hernandez-Armandarez was “walking in the middle of the roadway” when he was struck by a passing vehicle.
“Hernandez-Armendarez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator,” police wrote in the press release.
Police said the driver of the vehicle will not be publicly identified. It is unclear whether he or she has retained the services of a car accident lawyer.
No charges or citations have been announced and it is unclear whether factors such as speed might have contributed to the incident. Police did not say why Hernandez-Armendarez was walking in the middle of the roadway.
“Alcohol does not appear to be a factor and seatbelts appear to have been properly utilized,” police wrote in the press release. “No additional information is available at this time.”
