The deadly occurrence happened at about 2:52 pm on Friday, March 13, north of Interstate 5 and Weldon Canyon Road.

Investigative findings determined that the plane took off from Southwest Oregon Regional Airport, North Bend at precisely 1:50 pm, and was bound for the Van Nuys Airport when it encountered the tragedy.

The fatal wreck was called in at about 2:55 pm, alerting the fire service department of a suspected plane crash. Fire operatives responded to the scene shortly after and located the aircraft remains at about 5:12 pm on the same day.

They discovered the two victims trapped in the wreck. Paramedics accompanying the firefighters declared both men dead at the scene. The identity of the second victim was later revealed as John Russell Calvert, a 77-year-old native of Valencia.

The Federal Aviation Administration as well as the National Transportation Safety Board got whiff of the mishap, and have since delved into thorough investigations, as asserted by an FAA representative, Ian Gregor.
