When the police arrived, they found Broadwell with his hands planted firmly around one of his parent’s neck. The report released to the public was not indicative of which parent he was assaulting at the time of the incident.
Police also did not disclose what the altercation was about. Broadwell was arrested at the scene and taken to Napa County Jail. As of March 17, public records indicated that he is currently still being held on a $50,000 bail.
At this time, Broadwell is facing felony charges for his actions. He is being held for felony elder abuse and misdemeanor battery charges.
In the state of California, abuse doesn’t have to cause an older person great bodily harm, permanent disfigurement, or permanent disability to be charged as a third-degree felony. A third-degree felony charge carries a possible five-year prison sentence, five years of probation, and $5,000 in fines.
The penalty for a misdemeanor simple battery charge is up to six months in county jail and a $2,000 fine.
The report did not clarify if the parent that was attacked sustained injuries as a result of Broadwell’s assault. The Napa County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the incident.
