An elderly man died in a single vehicle accident in Surprise, Arizona on Tuesday, February 18th. The accident took place when the man drove his Honda CRV across multiple lanes of traffic and then struck a light pole. At this time, it is not clear exactly why the man’s car moved in this manner and struck the light pole.

The vehicle struck the light pole at great force and the car was nearly unrecognizable following the accident. It also briefly caught fire.

Police are still investigating the accident to try to determine the exact cause. The man was 79 years old. So, it is possible that a medical event took place which caused the man to drive off the road and into the light pole. Heart attacks and strokes are both suspected.

The man was the only person in the vehicle, and no one else was injured in the accident. Considering the fact that the man swerved across multiple lanes of traffic before striking the light pole, it is very fortunate that no one else was injured.

Following the accident, rescue workers arrived on the scene and put out the fire. However, the man was already dead and they were not able to revive him. Members of the local police department closed the road so that they could investigate the accident and try to get information about the cause of it. However, the road was reopened several hours later.
