Tuesday, February 17, 24-year-old Jake Tabor left for work like he always does. He is a pipefitter and travels for his employment. He was about an hour north of Houston close to the Willis city limits when the accident occurred.
Tabor was driving his Chevrolet pickup truck to work that morning on Highway 75 North when a deer ran out in front of him. After hitting the deer, he lost control of the truck and crashed into the fence of a company that sells trailers.

Around 4:00 a.m. Tabor dialed 911 for help. He had been impaled by a pole from the fence.
The North Montgomery County Fire Department and New Waverly found the pickup truck tangled in the fence of the trailer company and the fence post that had impaled Tabor’s body.
The pole missed his heart by inches.
The fire chief said that they have what is referred to as the “golden hour”. If they can get an impaled victim out of the vehicle within an hour and to the hospital, they have a greater possibility of preventing life-threatening injuries.
It took the firefighters on the scene approximately 30 minutes to free Tabor from the truck. They had to make sure to use extreme care with the pole to prevent blood loss.
Tabor was taken to Conroe Regional Hospital where he underwent surgery after the accident. He is reported to be in stable condition at the present time.
Tabor still has more surgeries in his future as a result of the accident, but first responders who had been at the scene state that he is very lucky to be alive.
Tabor has a wife and two little girls to come home to once he has fully recovered from his injuries.
Police are still considering the accident an open investigation. It is unlikely that Tabor will receive any citations.
