The chain of events that claimed the life of 14-year-old Shakayla Hill started early Monday, February 17, around 1:30 in the morning in Macon.

A deputy tried to execute a traffic stop after a Nissan Sentra ran a red light, but the driver would not stop the vehicle. The deputy reported that the vehicle continued to go down Napier Avenue at a highly accelerated rate of speed. As the vehicle approached the intersection of Habersham Avenue, the driver lost control of the vehicle and ran into a tree.

The Nissan Sentra had been reported as stolen on February 12.

The driver flipped the vehicle which took down a power line. The passengers and the driver were thrown from the vehicle during the accident. Only three of the passengers stayed at the scene of the accident. Two more took off on foot.

Those passengers who stayed at the scene were Hill, who was killed in the accident, a 15-year-old girl, and the 15-year-old boy who was driving.

The two 15-year-olds were taken to the Medical Center, Navicent Health and have been reports as being in stable condition after the accident.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office said that the driver is facing multiple charges regarding this accident. Besides the fact that the car was stolen, deputies also found two semi-automatic pistols, one of which was a Smith & Wesson 9mm that had been reported stolen.

He is also facing a felony murder charge in the death of Hill.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating this accident. They are looking for the two suspects who got away on foot after the accident. The deputies investigating are also looking for answers as to why these young kids were out at such a late hour.

The schools are currently out on winter break, but when they return, the Bibb County Schools have stated that there will be support staff available for help in the grieving process.
