Conrad Gillespie, 23, was heading north in a 2008 Honda Accord while attempting to pass Arthur Anderson, 51, who was driving a 2006 Ford Fiesta. Gillespie had been drinking before driving. He moved to the left side of the road in order to pass Anderson.
Instead of passing Anderson, Gillespie crashed head-on into Shearon’s 2012 Nissan Sentra in the southbound lane.
Anderson and Gillespie also both suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the wreck.
When the police department arrived on the scene, Shearon was pronounced dead. After an investigation, Gillespie was charged with two counts of aggravated DUI and with reckless homicide.
One of his counts of aggravated driving is a Class 2 felony because another person died. Gillespie also faces a Class 3 felony, as well as a Class 4 felony.
Gillespie also got citations for unlawful possession of a cannabis product by the driver, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, improper lane usage, and driving on the left where it was prohibited.
Gillespie is required to appear in a Piatt County court on March 3, 2020.
