The driver of a Chevy S-10 pickup truck entered the intersection to turn left onto SR-184 southbound, but failed to yield to an oncoming northbound Peterbilt semi truck.

The semi-truck slammed into the S-10 before veering into oncoming traffic and hitting a southbound Chevy Suburban.

The male driver of the S-10 was not secured by a seat belt and was ejected from the pickup truck. He passed away from his injuries at the scene.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 78-year-old Jose Luis Cardenas Alvarado of Arvin.

The driver of the Suburban suffered minor injuries. Two passengers in the vehicle, including a 5-year-old girl, sustained major injuries. All three were transported to Kern Medical Center for treatment.

The semi truck driver had minor injuries but declined transport to the hospital.
