Two Northern California pedestrians died after cars struck them both on Sunday, Feb. 16.
A 2013 Honda hit a 33-year-old male at about 1:16 a.m. on the Loveridge Road off-ramp from eastbound State Route 4 in Pittsburg, news reports state.

First-responders found the victim, a possible transient, dead on the roadway.
The driver, a 36-year-old male from Livermore, stayed on the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. As a result, authorities do not believe impairment to be a factor with the driver.

In the second incident, a 15-year-old Santa Clara teen sustained fatal injuries after a Honda Accord struck him at the intersection of Lafayette Street and Agnew Road at about 9:20 p.m.
The teen allegedly crossed Lafayette Street westbound against the “Do not Walk” sign while the Honda driver had a green light, according to news reports.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor and the driver remained on the scene to cooperate with law enforcement.

Pedestrian fatalities remain a high statistic, according the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). About 6,283 pedestrians died in traffic accidents in 2018, which translates to the most pedestrian deaths since 1990.

- Cross streets using cross walks.
- Don’t assume a driver sees you, therefore, attempt to make eye contact to ensure being seen.
