VALYERMO, CA – One woman was killed and another was injured Monday when their vehicle crashed and overturned in the Antelope Valley.
The Antelope Valley Times reports that the incident occurred on westbound Big Pines Highway past Largo Vista Road shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 19. The woman driving a 2009 Ford overcorrected after her vehicle drifted onto the right shoulder, causing it to veer across the oncoming lanes and then leave the roadway. The Ford crashed through a barbed wire fence, ran down an embankment, and overturned.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle, and died at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
A passenger received minor injuries and was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital for treatment. She has since been identified as Meilani Abernath, a 33-year-old resident of Palmdale.
