The police said that when medics arrived at the scene, they found three victims and conveyed them to the hospital for treatment. Rodriguez was at the Riverside University System Medical Center, and he passed away at about 7:05 a.m. Saturday.

The other victims’ condition remains unknown at this time, but the investigators stated that they sustained moderate wounds. The incident led to Esplanade and Hewitt’s closure in both directions, while the police investigated and cleared the scene.

The SJPD said that alcohol or drugs did not play a role in the occurrence. The investigation into the accident’s cause is ongoing, and anyone with helpful information should contact Deputy Wheeler at the San Jacinto Station listed line.

Traffic accidents are either single-vehicle crashes, two-vehicle collisions, or multiple-vehicle collisions. Incidents of this nature are avoidable if drivers mitigate the factors that lead to it by obeying the traffic rules and regulations, driving without impairment and within the speed limit, and promoting safe road behaviors above all else.
