The investigators said that they wanted to take Gabriel into custody and question him in connection to multiple robberies in several Northern California communities. They also revealed that the man fled from officers in Chico after ramming into police vehicles.

The TCSD, with the help of the CHP and the Red Bluff Police Department, tried to deploy a spike strip to stop the then-suspect, but it was unsuccessful. He kept driving at a speed of 110 miles per hour and entered into the north lane of North Main Street. The Infiniti then collided with a concrete center median causing the victim to lose control.

Gabriel struck a Caltrans traffic trailer, and the vehicle drifted onto the gravel shoulder and overturned, ejecting the man. He suffered severe injuries, and medics transported him to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital, where he passed away.

The sheriff’s office believes that the victim was not wearing a seatbelt and disclosed that they recovered evidence from multiple armed robberies. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
