A five-minute high-speed chase in the city of Long Beach, California, cost a pedestrian and his dog their lives and led to the arrest of a young man. The Tuesday, May 26th, accident began with the suspect Jyvante West, 26 — who needs a car accident lawyer — and ended with the death of 32-year-old Jose Hernandez.

Facts gathered from the Long Beach Police Department’s press release showed that the events leading to the death of the victim began with a burglary bust. At around 11 p.m., officers responded to the 2100-block of Gaylord Street after calls of burglary of commercial businesses came in.

The lawmen successfully detained three burglars at the scene and began pursuing West after they saw him fleeing in a Mercedes car. The young man gave no regard to the danger his speed posed, and at the intersection of 6th Street and Magnolia Avenue, he collided with Hernandez, who was walking his dog across the street.

The impact of the crash threw the deceased and the canine 100-feet from their initial position, and the dog ended up underneath a car. Hernandez died at the scene, and West kept driving until he drove into a fence.

Residents of the areas said that the collision was so loud that they thought it involved two cars. Police determined the young burglar was intoxicated by drugs and arrested him on suspicion of DUI. He is also charged with gross vehicular manslaughter, and evading a police officer, hence the car accident lawyer.

The young man is facing several traffic offenses and will remain in custody until he perfects his $100 000 bail bond. The LBPD took into custody six people from the Northern part of California involved in the burglary and fixed their bail at $10 000.
