Schaible at about 2:30 p.m. Monday was westbound in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 just outside Moses Lake, troopers reported. Miller at about the same time was driving the correct direction in the eastbound lanes of the interstate, car accident reports state.
The two vehicles collided head-on, totaling both, according to troopers. Both Schaible and Miller died at the scene of the wreck before they could be transported to a hospital for treatment, emergency medical services personnel reported.
Schaible allegedly was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the wreck, though Miller was. Neither man had any passengers in their vehicles, according to car accident reports.
The roadway was closed for about two hours while authorities worked at the scene. The incident remains under investigation by the Washington State Patrol.
Troopers told local media outlets they do not yet know whether factors like speed or intoxication might have contributed to the crash.
