Dillard at about 6:10 p.m. Tuesday was westbound on Bluewater Highway when he lost control of his vehicle near Johnson Road, according to a state police press release. Car accident reports state the vehicle drove off the highway and crashed into a tree.
Emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene to transport Dillard to an area hospital. However, he ultimately died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash. Dillard was alone in his vehicle at the time of the wreck, according to car accident reports.
Michigan State Police troopers continue to investigate the incident. A press release states that speed likely was a factor in the wreck.
Troopers did not say whether they suspect the involvement of additional factors, such as inattentive driving or intoxication, might have contributed to the crash. Car accident reports with additional information will be introduced into the public record as they are released.
Investigators were assisted at the scene by Life Ambulance, the Ionia County Sheriff’s Department, Saranac Fire Rescue and Ionia County Central Dispatch, authorities said in the press release.
