The man was driving south on LBJ Drive when, for an unknown reason, he struck a guardrail. The act caused Aviles to strike the northbound vehicle carrying Sowders, Maxwell, Francis, and Richard. The collision which happened at about 11 p.m. killed the quartet instantly.
The TDPS investigators said two of the victims were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Aviles, on the other hand, sustained severe wounds, and the medics took him to CHI St. Joseph Health in Bryan, where he remains in critical condition.
The authorities have not stated if drugs, alcohol, or a combination of both played a role in the fatal collision. They have also not ruled out speed as a factor, and the conclusion of their investigation would determine if Aviles would face charges.
Those involved in two-vehicle collisions should contact a top accident lawyer for legal advice and representations.
