An accident report update from Lake Tulloch, Calaveras County, California, revealed the identity of the motorcyclist who died in an accident in the area. The authorities released the victim’s name as Charles Brechtel, 62, of Copperopolis on Monday, April 27th.

The California Highway Patrol, in its preliminary report, said that the man died after he crashed his motorcycle against a vehicle on Saturday, April 25th. The accident took place at about 5:50 p.m. along O’Byrnes Ferry Road near Duchess Drive between Highway 4 and Highway 120.

Brechtel was riding a 1987 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on O’Byrnes when for unknown reasons, he crossed into the lanes heading south. The action caused the deceased to collide head-on with a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Briana Mason, 29, of Davis.

The impact of the collision ejected Brechtel from his bike, and he landed on the roadway. The man sustained fatal wounds, and the medics pronounced him dead. Mason, and her passenger, identified as Evan Gorder, 29, were uninjured; the two had their seatbelts on when the crash happened.

The CHP said that the cause of the accident remains unknown, and they are still investigating. There is no additional information at this time.

Accident reports in California show that when a motorcycle and a vehicle collide, the motorcyclist is most likely to get severely injured or die. The latter is because the driver of a car is protected by the automobile, while the bike rider has no covering.

To reduce the death of motorcycle riders, authorities advise that they drive within the speed limit. A motorcyclist should also have on the standard Cal-DOT helmet, and wear protective coverings.
