The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on March 20, around 8:41 p.m., where they found a motorcycle accident in Grass Township.

Arriving at the scene, officers determined that 34-year-old Brandon Seger was riding his 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle east on Cady Road when he left the roadway. After leaving the roadway, he struck a tree. He ended up positioned near Wolf Lake Road.

Jackson County Ambulance medical personnel were able to get Seger transferred to Henry Ford Allegiance Health. They classified his injuries upon transport as life-threatening. Once at the hospital, he lost the fight and died due to the severity of the injuries he sustained in the accident.

The report stated that Seger was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The state of Michigan gives motorcycle riders a choice about wearing a helmet. To legally be allowed not to wear a helmet, the rider has to be at least 21-years-old and carry an insurance policy that has at least $20,000 in first-party medical benefits.

The Sheriff’s Deputies did respond that they believe that alcohol contributed to the accident. An autopsy and/or toxicology report will be able to confirm this once the medical examiner has completed their examination.

The Jackson County Sheriff is currently still investigating the accident. They have not determined why Seger left the roadway at this time. Updates are pending and will be released as investigations conclude.
