Investigators determined that the crash occurred when a Toyota Camry travelling through the south lanes of Highway 33, south of the Kern-Kings County line, veered off its route and took to the opposite traffic lane.

The vehicle crashed head-on into an oncoming GMC in its part, despite attempts by the northbound motorist to clear off its path.

The CHP confirmed that another vehicle collided with the wrecked Toyota, but none of its occupants was seriously harmed.

Meanwhile, the driver of the westbound car, who has since been identified as 21-year-old Sebastian Alberto Martinez of Bakersfield did not survive the tragic accident.

The other motorist was trapped in his vehicle until he was rescued by the county’s firefighters. He suffered major injuries and was transported to the Kern Medical Center by paramedics.

The Kern County Coroner’s Office disclosed the injured victim’s identity as Cole Roberts, a 20-year-old male, from Paso Robles.

No information was disclosed regarding the impairment status of the involved parties. The deadly incident is still under investigation to ascertain the cause of the crash.
