Witness accounts stated that Lipari had been driving the motorcycle erratically. He was weaving in and out of traffic at excessive speeds prior to the accident.
The driver of the Civic stayed at the scene of the accident. They cooperated with the police. A DUI officer determined that the driver of the Civic was not impaired at the time of the accident.
They have not confirmed if Lipari was impaired at the time of the accident.
In order to drive a motorcycle, the state of Arizona requires that a Class M driver’s license be obtained. This is done through testing and course completion just like a vehicle license.
All persons under the age of 18 are required to wear a helmet. They still recommend that persons over the age of 18 wear a helmet, but it is not required by law.
The reports do not indicate if Lipari was wearing a helmet or not. The investigation into the accident is currently ongoing.
Other protective gear must be used while operating a motorcycle. The bike must be equipped with a windshield or protective eye/face wear must be worn. The bike must be equipped with rear-view mirrors and lights.
The important thing to remember when deciding to get out on the road on a motorcycle is that there are fewer safety features on a motorcycle than in a car. There are no airbags on a motorcycle to help if there is a collision. Arizona promotes safety first with motorcycles.
