Saturday, February 22, Norton police and firefighters responded to an explosion at 3 Faith Way. On the scene, the emergency personnel found an empty apartment unit that had damage from an explosion that appeared to be from a meth lab operation.

Police believe that the person responsible for the explosion fled the scene shortly after it occurred. They notified neighboring towns to be on the lookout for the suspect’s vehicle.

All the occupants of the building had to be removed due to the residue and the fumes from the explosion. Construction workers were seen boarding up the apartment where it occurred so that they could contain it to one area.

There were no other injuries reported in the explosion, however, shortly after the explosion, a 911 call came in. A man was experiencing some medical issues at a home on Pike Avenue in Attleboro.

The man was identified as 38-year-old Edward Rooney. Rooney is confirmed to be the resident of the apartments at 3 Faith Way. He was taken to Sturdy Hospital where he was pronounced dead due to repercussions of the accidental explosion.

A friend of Rooney’s mother indicated that he had been getting his life back on track and it was sad because he was such a nice guy.

Research conducted on meth labs indicates that the residue that is left behind is extremely flammable. Even abandoned meth labs have the potential of igniting.

The official cause of death for Rooney has not been released. If he was inside the apartment at the time of the explosion, it is possible that he inhaled multiple different types of toxic fumes.

It was not said if the residents of 3 Faith Way have been allowed to return to their homes yet. They were taken to a nearby center where they were being housed until it was safe to return.
