Due to the slippery road conditions and snow, Miller lost control of her vehicle, according to a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office news release. She crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. Authorities say she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Miller hit a red Dodge pickup truck on its driver’s side and caused significant damage to the pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck, Sergio Vargas, 32, attempted to avoid a collision. However, he could not, and he suffered a few minor injuries from the accident. The paramedics treated him on the scene.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and the Malta Fire Department responded to the crash. The paramedics performed CPR on Miller. Malta Fire EMS then transported Miller to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital, where officials pronounced her dead.

According to DeKalb County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Andy Sullivan, Route 38 was closed for a time between Willrett Road to Malta Road. The accident happened at the stoplight entrance that led to the college.

The DeKalb County Coroner and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office are still performing an investigation into the accident.
