The ongoing investigation of an accident that occurred on Saturday, February 1, has led to the identification of 7-year-old Avery Faith Fabela, who was a passenger in a vehicle that struck a taco truck on Highway 90.
Initial accident reports state that a 2009 Honda Accord was driving eastbound at a high rate of speed when the tire blew out on the car. This caused the vehicle to hit a guardrail, flipping over it, and hitting the taco truck on the other side.

The driver and passenger, a man and woman, were later confirmed to be the parents of Fabela. Her father was unconscious at the scene of the accident but still breathing. All three were taken to the hospital for their injuries.
A vigil was held in honor of the girl on Tuesday evening. Fabela’s favorite color was pink, so participants released pink balloons into the sky in remembrance. They also brought her favorite stuffed unicorn to lay at the memorial. Her parents were present for the vigil despite being injured in the accident.
Her grandmother talked about how happy Fabela always was and how she was always reminding her of her daughter (Fabela’s mother). The grandmother stated that she had been running errands when she received the call about the accident. By the time she reached the scene, all three had been transported to the hospital.
The family stated that they are holding on to their faith during this time to get through.
Arrangements have been made regarding the viewing, rosary, and funeral of Fabela. The viewing will be held on Thursday, February 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. The rosary will be held on the same evening from 6:30 to 7 p.m.
The burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday. Chapel Hill Funeral Home is in charge of all the arrangements for Fabela.
