Just before 1 a.m. on Friday, January 31, 23-year-old Taylor McCowan was driving her sedan on Loop 1604 going eastbound near the Babcock Road exit on the northwest side of San Antonio where she was hit head-on by a pickup truck that was driving the wrong direction.
The driver of the pickup truck was identified as a 40-year-old Deputy US Marshal named Jonathan Jones. Jones’ pickup truck trapped McCowan in her car during the accident. She was taken to University Hospital for treatment of her injuries. Jones was arrested and charged with intoxication assault. In the original report of the accident, prior to the names being released, it stated that the driver of the truck was also charged with unlawful carry of a firearm. There have been no indications that he is still being charged with this at the present time.

The US Marshals Service did confirm that Jones was a Deputy US Marshal, but they take the allegations against him seriously and have placed him on administrative leave and relieved of his duties operationally.
The US Marshals Service is fully cooperating with the San Antonio Police Department on the investigation into the accident involving McCowan and Jones. The US Marshals Service also plans on doing an internal investigation on Jones as well.
Raquel Hatch, the mother of Taylor McCowan, talked about how at this time it is touch and go with McCowan. Her condition is still extremely critical, and they are taking it one day at a time. Her mother said that if her daughter does make it through all these injuries, her life will still never be the same.
McCowan is a recent graduate from The University of Texas-San Antonio. Her family believed that she had a bright future in front of her, but now they worry that the driver of the truck may have taken that away from her.
