When firefighters arrived, they found flames and smoke billowing from the garage. Before crews could contain the fire, it spread to several rooms in the home.

After extinguishing the flames, a 2-year-old boy and 1-year-old girl were found deceased in the garage.

According to family friend Stephanie Heer, four other people inside were injured. Those that were hospitalized included a grandmother who suffered burns covering over 90% of her body, her granddaughter who suffered burns covering 30% of her body, and a baby great-grandchild who suffered burns covering 20% of their body. The fourth injured person received care at the scene but did not require hospitalization.

The grandmother’s daughter, who was away at the time of the fire, operates a dog rescue with Heer. Three dogs were lost in the fire.

Firefighters found that one of the home’s electrical lines had broken, though it is still unclear what caused the fire and what prevented the victims from evacuating.
